The Bazelon Center is a national legal advocate for people with mental
disabilities. Through precedent-setting litigation and in the public policy arena, the Bazelon
Center works to advance and preserve the rights of people with mental illnesses and developmental
disabilities.
Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA)
DBSA is the nation’s leading patient-directed organization focusing on
the most prevalent mental illnesses – depression and bipolar disorder. The organization fosters an
understanding about the impact and management of these life-threatening illnesses by providing
up-to-date, scientifically-based tools and information written in language the general public
can understand.
Episcopal Mental Illness Network (EMIN)
The EMIN provides a compassionate presence within the Episcopal Church
for persons with mental illnesses and their families. The EMIN is a place where we can share
information. It also is a resource for Episcopalians, both clergy and lay persons, to find out
more about mental illnesses and how to incorporate persons with mental illnesses into the full
life of the Church.
FaithNet NAMI CA
FaithNet NAMI is a network composed of members and friends of NAMI for
the purposes of (1) facilitating the development within the Faith Community of a non-threatening,
supportive environment for those with serious mental illness and their families, (2) pointing out
the value of one’s spirituality in the recovery process from mental illness and the need for
spiritual strength for those who are caretakers, (3) educating clergy and congregations concerning
the biologic basis and characteristics of mental illness, and (4) encouraging advocacy of the Faith
Community to bring about hope and help for all who are affected by mental illness.

IndependenceFirst was established in 1979 as a non-profit organization
directed by, and for the benefit of persons of all ages, with disabilities of all kinds, primarily
serving the four county Metropolitan Milwaukee Area. IndependenceFirst is your resource on
accessibility and issues related to living independently in our community for persons
with disabilities.
Mental Health Consumer Concerns (MHCC)
MHCC provides state mandated patients’ rights advocacy services in
Contra Costa, Solano, and Napa counties in addition to systems advocacy on the state and local levels.
MHCC was a catalyst in the creation of self-help groups in Contra Costa, Napa and Solano counties, an
anti-stigma campaign in Contra Costa, and Consumers Speaks Conferences.
Mental Health Ministries
Mental Health Ministries is an ecumenical, interfaith outreach through
the California-Pacific Conference of the United Methodist Church. Our mission is to educate faith
leaders and lay persons for the purpose of decreasing the stigma associated with mental illnesses in
our faith communities. Providing resources to faith communities to develop a mental health program
appropriate to each congregation is the important first step in the inclusion and support of persons
with mental illnesses and their families into the life of that community. Our mission is to
give voice to those who have suffered in silence and to enable faith communities to begin the
process of reaching out and providing compassionate care to those affected by disorders
of the brain.
National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI)
NAMI is a nonprofit, grassroots, self-help, support and advocacy
organization of consumers, families, and friends of people with severe mental illnesses, such as
schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder,
obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic and other severe anxiety disorders, autism and pervasive
developmental disorders, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, and other severe and persistent
mental illnesses that affect the brain.
National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression (NARSAD)
NARSAD is the largest donor-supported organization in the world devoted
exclusively to funding scientific research on brain and behavior disorders.
National Mental Health Association (NMHA)
The NMHA is the country's oldest and largest nonprofit organization
addressing all aspects of mental health and mental illness. With more than 340 affiliates nationwide.
NMHA works to improve the mental health of all Americans, especially the 54 million individuals with
mental disorders, through advocacy, education, research and service.

National Suicide Prevention Lifeline
The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is a national, federally
funded network of local crisis centers providing suicide prevention and intervention services through
a toll-free telephone number: 1-800-273-TALK (8255). Its mission is to provide immediate assistance to
individuals in suicidal crisis by connecting them to the nearest available crisis center in their area.

Resource Center to Address Discrimination and Stigma (ADS Center)
The ADS Center helps people design, implement and operate programs that
reduce discrimination and stigma associated with mental illnesses. With the most up-to-date research and
information, the Center helps individuals, organizations and governments counter such discrimination
and stigma in the community, in the workplace, and in the media.
Silver Ribbon Campaign for the Brain
The Silver Ribbon Campaign for the Brain was founded in 1993, by Jean
Liechty of Newport Beach, CA. The symbol is used to generate support and funding for research for people
with mental illness and brain disorders. The Silver Ribbon is the acknowledged symbol of fighting
stigma throughout the world.
